Watch Shackled Inmates Break Out Of Their Cell To Save Unconscious Jailer

"It never crossed my mind not to help, whether he's got a gun or a badge."

This is one of the most heroic prison-breaks ever.

A guard owes his life to a group of prisoners who risked their own safety to help save him.

Video footage emerged online Thursday showing the inmates breaking out of their holding cell in the basement of the District Courts Building in Weatherford, Texas, to rush to the aid of the guard.

The clip shows the lone jailer keeled over unconscious from an apparent heart attack, as the eight shackled prisoners bang on doors and shout out to gain attention.

Deputies in the court above the cell heard the commotion on June 23 and immediately ran downstairs because they thought a fight had broken out, WFAA reports.

”We were worried they were going to come with guns drawn on us,” one of the inmates, Nick Kelton, told the ABC affiliate.

Deputies found the jailer slumped in his chair and one of the prisoners reaching for his radio ― which was right next to his gun.

They soon realized the inmates were being noble and ushered them back into the cell and administered CPR to their colleague. Paramedics then arrived and the guard, who works for a private contractor at the nearby Parker County jail, regained a pulse.

Officials said the jailer, who does not want to be identified, may return to work next week. They also revealed that the holding cell has now been reinforced.

Kelton, a self-described methamphetamine addict, said it “never crossed my mind not to help, whether he’s got a gun or a badge.” “If he falls down, I’m gonna help him,” he added.
