Jake Elmore Pitches, Catches In Astros-Rangers Game (VIDEO)

WATCH: Astros Infielder Pitches, Catches In Same Game

The Rangers pummeling the Astros 16-5 Monday night should have been just another meaningless loss for a last-place team playing out their schedule, but it may have been quite memorable for Houston infielder Jake Elmore.

First, Elmore replaced teammate Carlos Corporan at catcher in the fourth inning. In the 8th inning, he was moved from behind the plate to the mound. Elmore, who is listed as a second baseman on the Astros' official website, pitched a 1-2-3 inning.

Elmore is the 14th player in MLB history to play as both a pitcher and catcher in the same game, per Master Tesfatsion of MLB.com.

"They told me early in the game that I was going to pitch because the game was out of hand. I was expecting that, but out of nowhere (Corporan) got hurt. I had told them I could catch like 2 weeks ago," Elmore said after the game, via the Associated Press. "I've never done both in the same game."
