British MP Holds Back Tears While Remembering Friend Killed In London Attack

James Cleverly said he'd known Constable Keith Palmer for 25 years.

A member of Parliament paid an emotional tribute to Keith Palmer, a police constable who was killed during Wednesday’s terror attack in London.

MP James Cleverly was near tears as he recounted knowing Palmer for over two decades.

“He was a strong, professional, public servant and it was a delight to meet him here again only a few months after being elected,” Cleverly said. “Would my right honorable friend the prime minister, in recognition of the work that he did and the other police officers and public servants here in the House do, consider recognizing his gallantry and sacrifice formally with a posthumous recognition?”

Cleverly also remembered Palmer on Twitter.

According to The New York Times, Palmer was patrolling Parliament when an attacker stabbed him.

“Keith Palmer was killed while bravely doing his duty ― protecting our city and the heart of our democracy from those who want to destroy our way of life,” London Mayor Sadiq Khan said.

Palmer, a father and husband, was 48.
