Attorney General Jeff Sessions became the butt of jokes on Twitter Wednesday after he resigned at President Donald Trump’s request.
Trump wished Sessions “well” in a pair of tweets, in which he also revealed Sessions’ former chief of staff, Matthew G. Whitaker, would step into his shoes on an acting basis.
Many tweeters reminisced about Sessions’ fractious relationship with Trump, and his likeness to a Keebler Elf, a similarity repeatedly pointed out by “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert:
The good news is that since Christmas is coming up, Jeff Sessions should have no problem finding part-time work as an elf

It worries me that we live in a reality where I just said, “We're gonna miss Jeff Sessions."

The abuse and contempt Jeff Sessions endured from the president was a remarkable testament to his lifelong commitment to doing racism at the highest level.
