Leopard thongs, ripped abs, scantly dressed men dancing their naked behinds off, women foaming at the mouth in anticipation…basically describes any old day in South Beach, right?
Well, Miami got a little more of this "heat" than it bargained for when certain chiseled celebrities swept through town promoting the new male stripper film "Magic Mike," directed by Steven Soderbergh and based in Tampa and parts of Miami.
No spoilers here, but Miami was a key part in the climax of the film’s plot.
HuffPost Miami met up with "Magic Mike" stars Channing Tatum ("Step Up") and Joe Manganiello (think chiseled werewolf from "True Blood") to find out what these flawless male specimens really think about the 305.
“Miami is like no other place on Earth,” Manganiello, who plays Big Dick Richie in the film, said. “There’s a really aggressive sexiness to Miami that you feel when you get off the plane.”
If anyone can relate to the mercurial, yet hedonistic nature of South Beach’s residents, it’s Manganiello.
“I’m of Mediterranean descent,” he said. “We are a passionate, fiery people, so I think of that Latin thing, I get it. I get it!”
Manganiello, who took "True Blood" by storm starring as the Adonis-like Alcide, has some surprising interests for a werewolf -- interests that Miami can more than satisfy.
“I also like cigars ... I like my cafe con leche, yeah I love it here,” he added.
Where does he go out when visiting?
“Last night, we went to Soho [Beach] House to watch the game,” he said. “There’s a big club called LIV [too].” Yeah, Miamians are well aware.
Manganiello was also gushing about his last trip to Miami in which he brought his dear old mom in town for Mother’s Day.
“We stayed at the Gianni Versace villa," he said. “That was a great time to spend with my mom, it’s also a great time to not have your parents around. You get to play around, and run around on the beach and the clubs. It’s great that everything’s right here on the water.”
As Manganiello’s career takes off with cameo roles in hit films such as "What to Expect When You’re Expecting," Miami can expect to see a bunch of him out and about.
“Will I ever get a place in Miami? Hell yeah, I love Miami, you kidding!” he said.
As for Tatum, who's a producer and also the inspiration for Magic Mike (based on his past as a male stripper), he teased the people of South Beach with a possible sequel to the movie.
“I would love to see a sequel in Miami,” Tatum said. “Or maybe we’ll do a prequel ... but if we do another one, it wont be a little movie like this. We made this for no money, for $6 million. I would want to do the big version of this and make it a big, crazy comedy with all these crazy guys in it.”
"Magic Mike" hits theaters nationwide June 29, and stars Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Matthew McConaughey and Olivia Munn.
