WASHINGTON -- If Jon Huntsman's presidential campaign wasn't in enough trouble already, it now has to deal with litigation in the District of Columbia. The issue? Unpaid rent for office space at the Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe law firm.
As Washington City Paper reports, the law firm filed suit against the Republican's campaign last month in D.C. Superior Court, saying it is owed $41,000.
According to court filings, the campaign signed a one-year lease on office space that cost $8,356.83 a month. But the campaign abandoned the space in August without notice.
The law firm is located in the Columbia Center, a shiny, angular glass office building on 15th Street NW, right next door to The Washington Post.
The former Utah governor and one-time ambassador to China, who invested the bulk of his time, energy and money in an attempt to win this week's New Hampshire primary, came in third. Despite the lack of a robust campaign infrastructure in South Carolina, Huntsman declared he would compete in that state's primary on Jan. 21.
BuzzFeed reported on Friday that some Huntsman staffers have been abandoning the campaign, quoting one anonymously that "[w]e're not going to quit, but we don't really want to keep going either."
