Josh Rubin, Owner Of Whisk Cafe In Ditmas Park, Missing For A Week (VIDEO)

Brooklyn Cafe Owner Missing For A Week

A search is underway in Ditmas Park for Josh Rubin, the owner of the recently opened cafe Whisk. Rubin has been missing for a week and was last seen leaving his apartment on Lawrence Avenue at 9PM on Monday, October 31. He was wearing a light colored sweatshirt and jeans. The 30 year-old man 6'2, 180 pounds (see Missing Person poster below) is skinny and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Searchers have been visiting local hospitals as Rubin is a diabetic and may be without his medication. Police are also concerned Rubin may suffer from mental illness. He's said to have been under a lot of financial pressure as the first rent check for his two-month old restaurant was due, The Brooklyn Paper reports. (The Ditmas Park blog reports, however, that Rubin wasn't behind on the rent.)

"He seems to have been in a depressed state-- it's something that concerns us," Deputy Inspector Eric Rodriguez of the 70th Precinct told The Paper.

According to the "Find Josh Rubin" Facebook page, currently with 818 members, police have asked family and friends of Rubin not to talk to the media, which they think might jeopardize their investigation.

Meanwhile, family and friends of Rubin are canvassing the city, posting flyers (you can download flyers here, and look at a Google Map of already posted flyers here) and are asking anyone with any information to call the 70th Precinct’s Detective Squad at (718) 851-5553 or email findjoshrubin@gmail.com.
