The gay Florida teenager who is behind bars for having a relationship with an underage girl spoke from jail Tuesday, just days after she signed a plea deal that will keep her incarcerated until the end of December.
Kaitlyn Hunt, 19, told local NBC affiliate WPTV-TV that she regrets sending her girlfriend sexually explicit messages over the summer, explaining that she feels her trust was violated and she was "set up in multiple ways."
She also says she wishes she could have spoken with her girlfriend's parents, who originally pressed charges against her and petitioned the school to have her expelled.
"I would have respected their wishes, and I would have sat down with them and had a conversation with them and it would have been different," she told the local station.

At the beginning of the 2012 school year, Hunt, who was an 18-year-old senior at the time, was in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old freshman at Sebastian River High School in Sebastian, Fla., a small town about 90 miles outside Orlando.
Hunt was expelled from school in February and charged with two felony counts of lewd and lascivious battery. She initially rejected a plea deal that included a child abuse charge, and she had a subsequent plea deal rescinded in August after it was revealed she had violated a court order not to contact her girlfriend.
Hunt has been in jail since Aug. 20 and will remain there until Dec. 20, after which she will be under house arrest for two years, Assistant State Attorney Brian Workman, who prosecuted Hunt, told The Huffington Post Wednesday.
In Florida, persons under the age of 16 cannot legally consent to sex. Hunt's case blew up across social media partly because many felt Hunt would not have been prosecuted if the relationship had been heterosexual.
Hunt's mother has said the sex between the two teens was consensual.
