Kathie Lee Gifford's musical "Scandalous" received a Tony nomination on Tuesday.

The musical's Carolee Carmello was nominated for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical." Carmello played Aimee Semple McPherson, in a show based on the real life of the 1920s evangelist and broadcasting pioneer. The nominations were announced on Tuesday.

The show was a labor of love for Gifford, who spent 13 years writing its book and lyrics. She was thrilled last summer when she revealed that the show had finally made it to Broadway, and had the support of her fellow "Today" co-hosts.

"Scandalous" opened in November, but closed after just three weeks. Gifford spoke about the musical on air, addressing harsh reviews that it had received and thanking those who had seen the show.
