TOP 5 FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19

1. Kathy Griffin At DAR Constitution Hall
Griffin is written off by comedy nerds because she's successful. On-air friends with Anderson Cooper, successful books about drinking wine with her mom and an adoring niche fan base, Griffin doesn't seem to care what the comedy elite think. She's perfectly happy selling out large theaters on a weekly basis. 8 p.m., all ages, $63 to $74.50

2. A Night Of The Living Dead (Artist) At Hillyer Art Space
Dress as your favorite dead artist a weekend before most Halloween parties. Make the most of your costume. The event is hosted by Hillyer Art Space and St. Johns Community Services. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to SJCS to support its programming for artists with disabilities. 7 p.m., all ages, $10 to $15

3. "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers" At Artisphere
A sci-fi classic on a giant screen. Start getting into the Halloween spirit. 8 p.m., all ages, $8

4. DC Lady Arm Wrestlers At Penn Social
If it's anything like what it sounds like, it'll be fun. All proceeds will benefit Miriam's Kitchen, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending chronic homelessness in the Washington DC area. 8 p.m., 21+, $5

5. The 9 At Black Cat
This collective of singer songwriters features a rotating lineup of performers. Highlights from this edition include Ryan McLaughlin of Typefighter and Sam McCormally of Ugly Purple Sweater. 9 p.m., all ages, $10

TOP 5 FOR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20

1. Art All Night
Last year's inaugural D.C. edition attracted 15,000 attendees. This year looks to at least equal that number. From 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. eight spaces in Chinatown will open their doors for performance art, static art, artsy drinks, artsy fashion and anything else art can be. 7 p.m., all ages, no cover

2. CAUSE Sneak Preview Party
The philanthropub opens its doors for the first time. Have a drink and support the first four featured non-profit beneficiaries: Higher Achievement, Common Good City Farm, Martha's Table and Agora Partnerships. 8 p.m., 21+, $50 ticket include beer, wine, hors d'oeuvres

3. Corcoran Community Day 2012 At Corcoran Gallery Of Art
An art fair in a museum. Why doesn't this happen every week? Take home works and support artists that are still alive. 10 a.m., all ages, no cover

4. Haunted Halloween Scavenger Hunt At Old Town Alexandria
Scavenger hunts are fun, especially when they're spooky. 6 p.m., all ages, $10

5. The Capital City Showcase At DC Arts Center
Christian Hunt does a fine job bringing comics, improvisers and musicians on stage at the DCAC on a monthly basis. This particular edition gets our pick because of Baltimore comic and impressionist Randy Syphax. 10 p.m., all ages, $10 to $15

TOP 5 FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21

1. Butler & Claypool Weekend Pop-Up Market At Studio 1469
On our last visit to a B & C event we found an early '80s female leather coat and Filson Garmet hat. Both were in excellent condition, reasonably priced and did not smell like moth balls. We bought both. Whenever a Butler & Claypool event happens, we will be there. 11 a.m., all ages, no cover, also Saturday, Oct. 20

2. Murder By Death At Fillmore Silver Spring
The openers for Say Anything are an Americana post-punk band that features a cello. For fans of Cursive, the idea of living in a dark Western noir film and concept albums. 7:30 p.m., all ages, $16.50

3. VelocityDC Top 10 At Sidney Harman Hall
The fourth-annual dance fest returns after sold-out performances in '09, '10 and '11. What got our attention are the dogs. This year's program includes a flash mob, babies, and a walk-on entrance by seven week-old chihuahua-pug mix puppies provided by the Washington Animal Rescue League. 2 p.m., all ages, $18, also Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20

4. Three Tents At The Big Hunt
This bi-monthly reading series will present four authors reading from recently released independent books. Two locals and two writers on tour make up the bill. A good way to dip your toe in the D.C. lit scene. 6 p.m., 21+, no cover

5. Langhorne Slim & The Law at Rock And Roll Hotel
Honky tomp stomp and twangy guitars. This is one of America's patented sounds. 8 p.m., 21+, $16
