Katy Perry is Elle U.K.'s September cover girl, and she had a few things to clear up in her interview. For one, her relationship with John Mayer has been a real wake-up call:
"He pulled away. That was a big hello for me. I realized I could lose the person I loved and I had to deal with some things, issues I think a lot of women have. You can be strong in one aspect of your life but submissive in another. ... [But] I'm not interested in taming anyone - I'm pretty wild myself."
Perry's been pretty poetic in her cover interviews. There was speculation that Mayer broke up with her over email (which would have been pretty devastating, considering Russell Brand ended things via text). When she spoke about the breakup in the July issue of Vogue, she was quite clear that she still had feelings for Mayer.
"I was madly in love with him. I still am madly in love with him. All I can say about that relationship is that he's got a beautiful mind. Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds."
So, the on-again, off-again couple is on again, at least for now. The two are "collaborating," and Perry candidly told Nancy O'Dell: "He is a sweetheart. That's why I love him."
Although, whether Mayer and Perry are hot or they're cold, he was not her date to the "Smurfs 2" premiere -- she brought her 92-year-old grandma instead.
