Kendra And Maliyah Herrin, Formerly Conjoined Twins, Thriving 7 Years After Surgery (VIDEO)

WATCH: How Are These Twins 7 Years After Surgery?

On Feb. 26, 2002, conjoined twins Kendra and Maliyah Herrin were born sharing a large intestine, bladder, liver and a single kidney. Each sister had two arms, but just one leg.

The girl's parents, Erin and Jake, faced an agonizing decision: separate the girls, or keep them conjoined. Both options would put the twins' lives at risk. The survival rate for conjoined twins is extremely low, and doctors had never before performed surgery to separate two bodies sharing the same kidney.

When the twins were 4 years old, Erin and Jake decided to have them separated. After a nerve-racking -- but successful -- surgery, Jake and Erin were reunited with their daughters. Five months later in 2007, the girls traveled to Chicago to meet Oprah.

"Their wills are so strong," Erin said during their appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." "Kendra is just up and down off of her bed. It's just amazing to us how well that they're doing."

The twins are now 11 years old. To show how the twins are doing today, the family filmed an update for "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" from their home in Utah.

Erin says the girls are healthier than ever, but are prone to infections because of the titanium rods in their backs. Every six months, the girls have surgery to help straighten their spines. They also have physical therapy every day and are each learning to use a prosthetic leg.

Still, the twins don't let anything stop them. In the video, Kendra and Maliyah laugh and giggle like typical sisters.

"I like swimming, playing with friends, riding bikes, jumping on the tramp[oline]," Kendra says.

"Eating," Maliyah adds.

"Yeah, eating!" Kendra says.

The family also shared another update: Kendra and Maliyah aren't the only Herrin twins! They are now big sisters to 7-year-old fraternal twin brothers, Austin and Justin.

"Oprah: Where Are They Now?" airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on OWN.
