Kill the Bloomdoggles

For Bloomberg bloomdoggles that sticks for any length of time, I'd like to apply for credit for the invention of a German-style compound word, "Dinglebloomdoggle," this being a bloomdoggle that's really hard to shake loose.

I thought I had created a new word, bloomdoggle, until I did an internet search and discovered there have been so many bloomdoggles that the word already exists.

The modern definition of a boondoggle is an expensive and unnecessary project undertaken for political reasons. A bloomdoggle is a boondoggle undertaken by Mayor Bloomberg.

Bill de Blasio will have to deal with several of these, one being the marine transfer station I've been writing about, another being a Yankee soccer stadium explained in this terrific article by Richard Brodsky.

Brodsky suggests Bloomberg is rushing the soccer stadium deal along so that by the time de Blasio takes over it will be harder to dislodge. This also appears to be the case with the construction of the marine transfer station up in Yorkville where workers arrive early and leave late, and where large blocks of concrete have been hurriedly swung across a footpath with minimal supervision.

For bloomdoggles that stick for any length of time, I'd like to take credit for the invention of a German-style compound word, "Dinglebloomdoggle," this being a bloomdoggle that's really hard to shake loose.

(If you're unfamiliar with the German language, here's a an example. The word "zweihundertvierundachtzigtausend" means 284,000, which is about a thousandth of the initial dollar cost of the hopefullymerebloomdoggle marine transfer station.)

Let's hope Bill de Blasio is as tough as his campaign rhetoric suggested, that he won't take any more crap from real estate, and that the city will go back to being a democracy.

Pucker up, New York, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
