Naked Statue Of Pregnant Kim Kardashian Meant To Challenge Media Criticism (PHOTOS)

GUESS WHO?

A naked statue of pregnant Kim Kardashian by famous celebrity sculptor Daniel Edwards is meant to challenge the media criticism surrounding the reality star and her changing body.

Edwards, an American sculptor whose pieces address celebrity and popular culture in controversial ways, debuted his statue of a very nude and very pregnant Kardashian at the LAB Art Gallery in Los Angeles Wednesday.

"People tend to look at the parts, like the creases in her armpits, or how she wore a dress that makes her look like a killer whale," the artist said in an interview with L.A. Magazine. "I’m stripping it of the details people get stuck on, so they can see the beauty."

He sees her, and other pregnant Hollywood stars, as the ultimate symbol of fertility.

“I was inspired by the beauty of Kim Kardashian and felt quite put-off by the media’s criticism of her weight gain during pregnancy. Such criticism should be off limits," Edwards said in a press release published by his PR firm, Cory Allen Contemporary Art. “We live in a media-absorbed culture where anyone can access and share a celebrity’s most intimate moments,” Cory Allen added. “Daniel visually captures ‘that’ intimacy.”

Edwards' most recent work is part of the "L.A. Fertility" exhibition, which is a continuation of the “Celebrity Baby Boomer” series that began in 2006. That year, he made headlines for his naked sculpture of Britney Spears delivering her baby on a bear skin rug. The piece, titled "Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston," was a nod to the pro-life movement. This year, Edwards has sculpted statues of the two most anticipated babies of 2013 -- baby Kimye and the royal heir.

Visitors of the exhibit, which opened June 5, are encouraged to rub Kardashian's belly for good luck or success.
