Kindle DX Is Back: Amazon Selling Vintage Kindle Discontinued A Year Ago

Amazon Brings Back Vintage Kindle

Amazon is bringing back one of its oldest and biggest e-readers, the Kindle DX. It's a little strange that Amazon is bringing back this 9.7-inch dedicated e-reader, a gadget that has taken a hit as full-fledged tablets have gained popularity. What's even weirder is that Amazon seemingly hasn't changed the product at all. It's just re-releasing a product from 2009.

The company retired the Kindle DX in October of 2012, according to TechCrunch, and the DX hasn't been heard from since. The device is large, by today's standards. Kindle's newest tablets, the full-color Kindle Fire HD and black-and-white Kindle Paperwhite, max out at 8.9 inches and 6 inches, respectively.

So predictably, the price has been reduced to $299 for the 2013 version, a discount of $80 from the original price. Amazon didn't make an announcement or publish a press release, so it's still not clear what Amazon is doing except perhaps shoveling off some old inventory.
