'Kirstie' Premiere: Kirstie Alley Is Narcissistic And Bland

TV Land has gathered up some more classic sitcom stars for its latest comedy venture. "Kirstie" stars Kirstie Alley as Madison Banks, a narcissistic Broadway star whose life gets turned upside down when the son she gave up or adoption shows up on her doorstep. And so, because this is television, she immediately lets him move in.

Alley is joined by fellow "Cheers" co-star Rhea Perlman, as her personal assistant, and Michael Richards of "Seinfeld" fame as her driver. Gilles Marini ("2 Broke Girls") is also on board as her personal chef. And, like most TV Land sitcoms, there are already a ton of guest stars lined up, like this week's Kristen Chenoweth, Jason Alexander, Cloris Leachman, George Wendt, Kristen Johnston, Kathy Griffin and John Travolta.

The New York Times' Mike Hale didn't think the new show lived up to TV Land's standards. He wrote, "'Hot in Cleveland,’ where Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves deliver the goods with crackling precision, is the BMW of the group. ‘Kirstie,’ with Ms. Alley mugging through her role as a kindhearted narcissist, is more like the Ford Focus. If it’s late and it’s all the rental company has left, you might as well take it.” Over at The Washington Post, Hank Stuever wasn't impressed either, dubbing it "a plastic replica from the old sitcom machine.”

"Kirstie" continues every Wednesday at 10 p.m. EST on TV Land.

TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.
