LA Weekend Guide: Cut, Sweat, Eat, Drink, Dance, Laugh (PHOTOS)

It's that time of the year again: All our gloaty East Coast friends can't stop beaming about their damn foliage. And why, you might ask, could we care less? Because this weekend's got fun in spades -- and not an apple-picking adventure in sight.

It's that time of the year again: relentless heatwaves are setting California on fire (both figuratively and, at times, literally) and meanwhile all our gloaty East Coast friends can't stop beaming about their damn foliage. And why, you might ask, could we at Broke Girls Guide care less? Because this weekend's got fun in spades -- and not an apple-picking adventure in sight. (Note: we'll see who's feeling braggy when November rolls around...)

Friday

Start your weekend by making good use of your vanity. All day Friday, trim. in Venice is giving Cuts for Mutts, where the proceeds from men's and women's haircuts go straight to the Beagle Freedom Project. We've long been looking for a cause that simultaneously sounds highfalutin and heartwarming -- the "Beagle Freedom Project?" Check.

After work, head downtown for a panel brought to you by KCRW and Zocalo Public Square, Will Downtown Ever Work? Once you've sorted it all out, make a good case for the "Resounding YES" column by grabbing dinner at Umamicatessen before heading to The Orpheum to catch Aziz Ansari. If you don't end up getting swept into an all-night bender with Aziz and Kimye (hey, it could happen), wash down all those jokes at Pattern Bar, where fashion comes second only to delicious hand-crafted cocktails.

Saturday

If the previously mentioned bender is still underway come Saturday, totally ignore the rest of our agenda. If not, wake up weekend-early, swing by Moon Juice, and then get ye to YAS by 10 a.m. for a special Yoga for Athletes class, complete with a live DJ. After, sneak over to B1 Breadshop for an artisanal carbo-load you surely deserve.

Before you make your grand exit from The Land of Gauzy Maxi-Dresses, Wealthy Hippies, and Parents-Who-Take-Their-Babies-to-Gjelina (aka Venice), pick up picnic fixins at Local 1205. Don't dig in quite yet -- you're going to need them later. After, stop by Bloomingdale's at Santa Monica Place and bring your gently worn boots. Saturday only, donating them to Housing Works will get you 20 percent off a new pair in-store.

Later, head east with your picnic to Barnsdall Art Park for an outdoor movie. Gates open at 5:30, so bring your best blanket and your most aggressive friends and get ready to jockey for a spot. Then, sit back, relax, and enjoy Fletch while chomping into your much-anticipated Niman Ranch Shortrib Sandwich.

If you're not completely exhausted at this point (or grass-stained), grab a whiskey drink at the Thirsty Crow in Silverlake before catching Hunx and His Punx at Los Globos. Then, take two and call us in the morning.

Sunday

Sleep in Sunday, then head east to Pasadena for This Little Piggy Went to the Brewery at the Haven Gastropub. A ticket (which is $10 off for Yelpers) buys you access to various porcine food stations and 16 different crafty beers. (Don't worry, Rosh Hashanah doesn't start 'til sundown.) If you're not completely stuffed (or, presumably, drunk), stick around Pasadena for beer, wine, and delicious Louisiana gumbo at the Mumbo Gumbo Fest.

They say that laughter is the best medicine, but did you know it's also a fantastic way to burn calories? OK, so we're not exactly scientists and we don't know that to be literally, 100 percent true, but regardless, after the major ingestion-fest you've had all day, we think the best antidote would be taking in a 30 Minute Musical in WeHo. Back by popular demand, the repertory's showing a limited, one-week re-run of their entertaining (and quick!) telling of Top Gun.

After that? Tuck yourself into bed, dear broke girl. We think you've seen enough Goose (and pig, and crows, and beagles... ) to help you fly through this week.

FRIDAY: Haircuts At Trim.
