Manhattan borough president and likely mayoral candidate Scott Stringer came out in defense of Lady Gaga on Tuesday, after she was bizarrely labeled a "slut" by a different borough president, Staten Island's 81-year-old James Molinaro.
In a statement, Stringer praised the singer as "a social justice activist and a real leader for marriage equality in this country.”
Now Lady Gaga has taken to her Twitter account to thank Stringer for the kind words:
Molinaro was speaking at an anti-substance abuse event Sunday when he pointed to a photo of Gaga lighting a joint on stage while performing in Amsterdam and suggested the singer set a negative example for young people.
He took the comments further and said, "Stop glorifying the drug use. There's Gaga. Here's this... this... I would call her a slut. This slut is influencing many, many children ... and it's right to do. It's fine, it's part of it."
As for Stringer, he's a big fan of celebrities, having had multiple fundraising events thrown by Scarlett Johansson in his honor.
The 52-year-old also boasts ties with none other than Justin Bieber. During a press appearance for Bieber's new album in June at J&R Music, Stringer declared June 19th as "Justin Bieber J&R Appreciation Day!"
