HEADS UP! Large Boulder Falls On Westbound I-70

A boulder the size of a car fell onto I-70 early Monday near Glenwood Springs in Colorado blocking and forcing the closure of one westbound lane.

Road crews are reportedly breaking up the rock and hauling it away. The large boulder, that 9News reports is the size of a Volkswagen Beetle, only caused minor roadway damage.

CDOT is advising any I-70 travelers to allow for some extra travel time because the outside (right) westbound lane is currently closed and both westbound lanes will be closed intermittently as crews haul away the rock pieces and patch the small hole in the road.

UPDATE: On Monday, at 2 p.m. MST CDOT reported that the boulder has been removed and all lanes are now open on I-70.
