When Destiny's Child reunited during the Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday, one of the group's original members was watching from home.
Celebuzz caught up with former Destiny's Child member LaTavia Roberson to hear her thoughts on Beyonce's Halftime Show and the reunion with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
“Obviously, seeing Beyonce perform was the highlight for me,” the 31-year-old told Celebuzz. “I got a real surprise when both Kelly [Rowland] and Michelle [Williams] both popped-up on the stage like that.”
Continuing, “I thought they all looked great and did a good job with their dance moves. Beyonce was especially amazing. She looked fabulous and her voice was really strong. During the performance somebody texted me to say they could not hear Kelly and Michelle sing. It was so noisy in the house where we watched the performance that I did not really notice anything wrong. But who knows? They probably had some technical problems.”
Roberson was childhood friends with Beyonce growing up in Houston. In 1997, the girls teamed up with Rowland and LeToya Luckett and formed Destiny's Child.
After hits like "Bills, Bills, Bills," "Bug a Boo" and "Say My Name," Roberson and Luckett attempted to break from the management of Beyonce's father, Mathew Knowles, in 1999. They claimed he took too much profit and showed favoritism to his daughter and Rowland, according to MTV News. By February 2000, they had been replaced by Williams and Farrah Franklin.
Although she may have been a part of two lawsuits against Destiny's Child -- one aimed at Mathew Knowles, and the latter claiming 2001's "Survivor" mocked them and violated settlement agreements -- Roberson feels no ill will today.
During a 2012 interview with KempireRadio discussing an appearance on "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," Roberson revealed how the relationship has evolved.
"I have spoken to all the girls since then," she said, referring to 1999 split. "I've seen Beyonce and we've embraced each other and we've hugged. I've told her how proud I am of everything that she's been doing and that she's an absolutely phenomenal woman ... There's not a bitter bone in my body. Even through the breakup, I just have to believe that that was my fate in that group."
Roberson was not the only one to offer kind words to Beyonce, Rowland and Williams on Sunday. Luckett also took to Twitter to offer her congratulations.
