Since "The Hills" went off the air at MTV, the lives of the cast members have gone in totally different directions.Lauren Conrad, the star of the show, now has a boyfriend of nine months and has never been happier, according to a source.

"Lauren is in a really good place. She has created a mini-empire, with bestselling books and a blog on fashion," one producer who is still in touch with the reality star tells me. "The last season of the show she earned almost $6 million and was very wise with her money. She's purchased a home in Los Angeles, where she lives with her dog, Chloe, and looks prettier than ever."

But for every reality-show success story, there is the flip side of the coin.

"Spencer Pratt and his transformed-by-surgery bride, Heidi Montag, have virtually fallen off the map. It's so sad," another insider tells me. "After starring on the show, the duo made attempts to stay in the spotlight, to no avail. They were last spotted setting up a photo shoot on the beach in Malibu. Spencer has enrolled in USC to become a lawyer, and they have spent every penny they earned on Heidi's disastrous music career."

As for other cast members, Whitney Port continues to work in fashion in New York City and is basically the same girl she was while on the show, while Lo Bosworth has perhaps made the biggest physical transformation, with recent pictures showing that she has gained a few pounds. Lo is working on the other side of the camera as a talent manager these days.

"I have worked on several shows since 'The Hills' and I warn everyone, 'Be careful that change doesn't change you and save your money,'" says one producer. "They never listen."
