We've seen images of these unique kaleidoscope dollhouses before, but until we saw it mentioned on Daddytypes.com, we had no idea about the army of amazing visionaries behind the design, including Lena Dunham's mom, artist Laurie Simmons. So naturally we did a little digging.
Simmons, who is known for photographing dollhouse furniture, collaborated with architect Peter Wheelwright in 2001 to design this miniature abode for Bozart Toys. The Kaleidoscope Dollhouse has colorful sliding transparent walls that allow little tykes (and design nerds like us!) to play with color and light. And other celebrated designers like Karim Rashid, Ron Arad, Cindy Sherman, Judy Ross and Jonathan Adler all contributed tiny furnishings for its interiors.
The dollhouses were only available on the market for a short time, so they've become a rare collectible. According to Daddytypes.com, one sold new in the box for close to $1,600 in 2007. Other gently used ones can be found on eBay for a lot less, like this one:
As Daddytypes mentions, surely this was inspiration for Dunham's 2010 Indie flick "Tiny Furniture."
