"Little Britain USA": Two Guys Being Silly, With A Few Fat Suits Thrown In

On their most recent visit to New York, the British comedians Matt Lucas and David Walliams were pleased to meet a woman they described as "our fan in America." This admirer, they recalled, had never watched their hit BBC show "Little Britain," but had seen the pair on Jay Leno's show the night before, adored their accents, and told them, "I love Brit humor."

Mr. Walliams interpreted the encounter as a good omen. In the United States, he said: "You've already got brilliantly funny American people. You don't need more funny people pretending to be American."

If that assertion proves true, it would be a very positive development for the duo's new series, "Little Britain USA," which has its debut on HBO on Sunday night. On their home turf Mr. Lucas, 34, and Mr. Walliams, 37, have already risen to fame with the original incarnation of "Little Britain," a rapid-fire sketch show on which they play nearly all the characters (often in drag, fat suits, thick layers of makeup or all of the above).
