Nigel Lythgoe, 'So You Think You Can Dance' Producer, Talks Gay Stereotypes Of Male Dancers

WATCH: If You're A Male Dancer, 'You're A Homosexual'

"So You Think You Can Dance" producer Nigel Lythgoe spoke at length about the reluctance many British and American men have toward dancing, noting it was connected to existing stereotypes about professional male dancers.

"It's not really accepted that guys dance, for some reason," Lythgoe noted. "Especially when you put on a pair of tights and do ballet ... if you're a dancer, you're a homosexual. In this day and age, what the hell? Why should you be labeled in anything that you do?"

Lythgoe seemed optimistic about the future generations of male dancers, however, noting he'd seen an increase in the number of fathers who applauded their sons for their achievements in dance.
