March Of The Penguin Suits: Tuxedos Move Into Mainstream

In what risks looking like "March of the Penguins" gone wild, a flurry of creative tuxedo styles has waded into stores, onto the pages of fashion magazines and across runways.

In time for the busiest tuxedo-wearing time of the year, late spring and summer, with proms, benefits and weddings, the looks include Moschino's zebra-striped cotton-and-silk tuxedo jacket embroidered with pearl buttons, a slate-pink 100% silk tuxedo by New York-based designer duo Shipley & Halmos and, hitting stores later this summer, Salvatore Ferragamo's blue velvet tuxedo jacket with a silver mink shawl lapel.

These unconventional styles represent the extreme of designers' attempts to liven up the tuxedo. Few men will actually wear them.
