Since news broke last week that Cory Monteith had checked himself into rehab for substance abuse treatment, his pals at "Glee" have voiced their support for the actor.

"I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this," his co-star and girlfriend Lea Michele told People magazine. "I am grateful and proud he made this decision."

And this weekend, Mark Salling, who plays Puck on the series, commented on Monteith's decision to seek help for his problem.

"It takes balls . . . to go through that publicly. Period," Salling told Us Weekly at an event in Las Vegas Saturday. "It takes balls to go through that privately, but to go through it publicly like that -- balls."

Monteith, 30, has been open about his struggles with drugs and alcohol as a teenager. “I burned a lot of bridges. I was out of control," he told Parade in 2011. After his mother and some friends staged an intervention when he was 19, he entered rehab for the first time. “I did the stint but then went back to doing exactly what I left off doing," he said.

Monteith's colleagues have also been using Twitter to wish him well.

"Huge love for brother Cory. Can't wait to hit the course with ya," Salling tweeted on April 1.

In another tweet, "Glee" co-creator Ryan Murphy noted, “I am so proud of Cory Monteith and love and support him 100%.”
