Forget Adrian Peterson. Maurice Jones-Drew thinks he should be selected with the No. 1 overall pick in fantasy football drafts this year, despite missing 10 games last year and having surgery on his foot in December.
"Last year, I was leading the league in rushing when my foot fell off," the 28-year-old told Eric Adelson of Yahoo! Sports. "It's funny. People were saying Adrian [Peterson] was washed up last year. Now they're questioning Arian [Foster]. That's what people have to do to justify not drafting you. That's them. I'm very confident in my abilities and my team."
MJD is ranked 27th in ESPN's overall fantasy projections heading into the 2013 season, behind running backs Chris Johnson, Matt Forte, Stevan Ridley and Frank Gore. In Yahoo! fantasy drafts, Jones-Drew's average draft position is 22.9, meaning that he is usually getting picked late in the second round.
Jones-Drew, who even wrote about fantasy football for Sports Illustrated in 2010, has given out some good advice before. In August 2010, he called Houston's Arian Foster his "ultimate sleeper."
Foster rushed for 1,616 yards and 16 touchdowns that season. He has 41 rushing touchdowns over the last three seasons.
