Maxwell Brings Viral Cashier On Stage To Sing With Him, And He Nails It

No words.

Lucas Holliday totally held his own when it came to singing with his musical hero.

The Dollar General cashier, who became an internet sensation last week after a customer filmed him singing Maxwell’s “Ascension,” joined the R&B star on stage for his show at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit on Friday.

Together, they performed the track that catapulted the 26-year-old from Lansing, Michigan, to viral stardom. And Holliday absolutely nailed his part.

And here’s more video from an audience member:

Holliday’s sensational voice came to the public’s attention after Facebook user Nakia Robinson posted video of him singing while at work on Nov. 8.

“OK folks, this is my area Dollar General and this is one of my favorite cashiers and he is the bomb,” she said in the clip. “You gotta come and check him out down here.”

The heartwarming clip soon spread and led to ABC’s Good Morning America interviewing Holliday and playing out a pre-recorded message from Maxwell himself, who asked the cashier to join him in performing in front of thousands of his fans.

“You sound unbelievable. I wanted to personally invite you on stage at my Detroit show, this Friday, and hopefully you’ll join us,” said Maxwell. “And congratulations. You have a sick, amazing voice.”

Needless to say, Holliday ― who sings in funk-blues band Tell Yo Mama ― accepted. And here’s how people on Twitter have reacted to his inspiring performance:
