#GivingTuesday, the global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, will be celebrated with a community gathering in the nation’s capital. This will be the first time the District will hold such an in-person event for #GivingTuesday. Last year 98 countries participated in #GivingTuesday and $177 million was raised online.

Mayor Muriel Bowser will speak to donors, nonprofits and other community leaders at the celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the DowntownDC Holiday Market, which is marking its 13th year as home to unique gifts from the District and around the world.

The DowntownDC Holiday Market will open on Black Friday (Nov. 24) and run for four weeks, until Saturday, Dec. 23. This year’s Market features over 150 curated, hand-crafted items.

The market is produced by Diverse Markets Management (DMM) in partnership with the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID). Organizers see the Celebration of #GivingTuesday as a way to highlight Washingtonians who give back at this special time of the year.

The Catalogue for Philanthropy, Washington’s trusted “go to” source for connecting citizens to the very best nonprofits in our region, will also be participating in its new role as the community leader for #GivingTuesday.

About the Catalogue for Philanthropy

The Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington is the region's only locally-focused guide to giving and volunteering. We believe in the power of small nonprofits to spark big change. Our goal is to create visibility for our charities, fuel their growth with philanthropic dollars, and create a movement for social good in our region.

Since 2003, the Catalogue has raised more than $40 million for our network of vetted charities. Every nonprofit in our network is evaluated for excellence by a team of over 120 local experts. Each organization in our network is assessed for impact, community needs and financial transparency.

We highlight the best local charities, and their work, to show what is possible when caring citizens connect with worthy causes, acting together on behalf of the greater good. Our vision is a stronger, more resilient community, here, where we live. www.cfp-dc.org.
