McCain Camp Raises Bittergate In Latest Robocall

The McCain campaign is out with yet another scathing anti-Obama robocall, this time attacking the Illinois Senator for his notorious "bitter" comments, claiming he and "elitist Democrats" would try to take away people's guns.

A reader in North Carolina sends over a copy of this message she received on Wednesday, narrated by a man with a notably thick southern drawl:

"Hello. I am calling for John McCain and the RNC because Barack Obama says small town folks like us cling to our guns because we are bitter. And elitist Democrats who want to control Washington and completely ban hand guns and most hunting rifles. The NRA said that Barack Obama would be the most anti-gun president in American history. These elitist Democrats just don't understand us and we can't trust them with our 2nd Amendment rights. This call was paid for by the Republican National Committee and McCain Palin 2008."

The call is the second incendiary one launched by the McCain campaign today. Earlier it was reported that the Republican ticket was blasting out a robocall narrated by Rudy Giuliani that attacked Obama for being soft on crime.

It should be noted that Obama has made a steady push to convince rural and southern voters that he would not, in fact, be restrictive of gun ownership but rather than second amendment policy should be dictated by the needs of each respective locale.

To this point, McCain's robocall campaigns have generally sputtered, with four Republican Senators denouncing the tactic and even Gov. Sarah Palin airing displeasure.

The RNC did not return request for comment.
