Melissa Dohme Stabbed 32 Times By Ex-Boyfriend, Now Dating First Responder Cameron Hill

Brutal Stabbing Leads To 911 Love Story

In January 2012, Melissa Dohme's ex-boyfriend, Robert Lee Burton, Jr., allegedly slashed her 32 times near a Florida park. She miraculously survived.

Cameron Hill, a Clearwater, Fla. firefighter-paramedic, was among the first to respond to a 911 call placed by witnesses, the Tampa Bay Times reported. He found Dohme unconscious and barely alive.

One year later, the two are in love.

Last October, Dohme -- who'd undergone several surgeries before fully recovering -- met two of her first responders, one being Hill, when she spoke at a local church. The two had an instant connection.

"I was weirdly giddy," Dohme told the Times. "I had this feeling about him."

The two kept in touch and eventually began a romance that has brought a silver lining to the grisly crime.

Burton Jr., meanwhile, was apprehended the night of the stabbing when police were later notified of a car accident in a nearby town. A Clearwater Police news release said that Burton was suspected to have overdosed on sleeping pills before the crash.

Upon regaining consciousness, he was arrested and charged with attempted murder, according to Pasco Sheriff's Office records. According to the Times, Dohme testified at Burton Jr.'s pre-trial hearing on Wednesday. Hill accompanied her.
