According to the World Health Organization, approximately 830 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth each day. Ninety-nine percent of those deaths occur in developing countries.
That’s why Merck, an American pharmaceutical company, has launched the Merck for Mothers campaign. The campaign is a 10-year, $500 million initiative aimed at ending childbirth-related deaths through programs in 30 countries including India, Senegal, Uganda, the U.S., and Zambia.
In honor of International Women’s Day on Wednesday, the company released an emotional video, entitled “PUSH,” showing the maternal mortality crisis from the perspective of three mothers around the world. The powerful ending of the video highlights the need to continue the fight against maternal mortality. Watch it above.
