Mike Huckabee Is Having A Meltdown About Those New Rainbow Doritos

The GOP presidential hopeful is calling for Frito-Lay to "sever ties with hate groups" like the It Gets Better Project.

Longtime same-sex marriage opponent Mike Huckabee has gotten pretty worked up... over junk food.

The Republican presidential hopeful has penned a letter blasting a new, limited edition line of rainbow-colored Doritos -- specifically because they were released in support of the It Gets Better Project, an lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth advocacy group.

Huckabee hasn't forgotten about his longtime beef with It Gets Better founder Dan Savage. He slammed the outspoken LGBT rights activist and author in the letter, which was addressed to Frito-Lay, Doritos' parent company, earlier this week.

In the letter, which was excerpted by WND, Huckabee accused Savage of making "hateful and vulgar comments toward Christians" and calling "for violence and injury to people he disagrees with." The former Arkansas governor encouraged Frito-Lay to "sever ties with hate groups" like the It Gets Better project.

Huckabee shared the link to the WND article on his Facebook page:

I wanted to alert you to my letter to Frito-Lay. You will be hearing more from me about this. Will you stand with me?Warning: A video linked to in the article contains vulgar language.

Referring to an obscenity-laced clip of Savage criticizing his stance on LGBT rights in an installment of the "Savage Love" podcast, Huckabee wrote: “It is beyond me to understand how a responsible corporation would think that partnering with someone who spews the vicious vitriol that Savage does would be worthy of your corporate contributions.”

He then added, “If it does represent the corporate values of Frito-Lay, then the Christian community needs to be made aware that Frito-Lay has decided to not seek their business.”

A rep for The It Gets Better Project responded to the controversy in an email to The Huffington Post, and wrote, "The It Gets Better Project is committed to suicide prevention and anti-bullying efforts on behalf of LGBT youth, inspired by a YouTube video created by Dan Savage five years ago this week. Unlike Mr. Huckabee, iconic corporations like Frito-Lay are on the right side of history and we appreciate their support."

Given consumers' reaction, there doesn't seem to be that much cause for concern. On its official website, the It Gets Better Project thanked fans for their "incredible amount of support" for the new snack, and noted that the product had already sold out.

Better luck next time, Mike!
