Spider-Man, Err, Mingering Mike Accepts Honors At D.C. Council (PHOTOS)

With great power comes ceremonial recognition from the D.C. Council.

Spider-Man -- or rather Mingering Mike, an artist who has sworn to keep his identity secret, like Spider-Man -- made an appearance Wednesday before the D.C. Council, in order to receive honors from lawmakers for his artistic contributions in the nation's capital.

The local artist, whose work will appear at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 2015, and who created a series of portraits of D.C. Councilmembers, accepted the honors, officially known as the Ceremonial Recognition Resolution of 2013, and said some words about art:

"We do need art and music in our lives, so please contribute as much as you can to art and music. Put us on the map again like Chuck Brown did. Thank you."

But mostly, he just made the Council a lot more awesome, even if just for a day. We move that superhero costumes become the official Council dress policy.
