Mitt Romney Campaign Announces $40.1 Million Raised In April

The Mitt Romney campaign announced that it had raised over $40.1 million in April, significantly up from the $12.5 million the former Massachusetts governor netted in March and almost matching President Barack Obama's campaign and the Democrats.

The campaign also said it had $61.4 million in cash on hand.

The 40.1 million figure also includes money raised in conjunction with the Republican National Committee, which announced on April 4 that the two were joining together under the "Romney Victory Fund."

Though 95 percent of donations received were $250 or less, those small-dollar donations only accounted for $10.1 million of the total funds raised.

President Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee raised $43.6 million in April, down from $53 million in March.

Romney will also be helped by $25 million in anti-Obama attack ads, announced Wednesday by the Karl Rove-founded group Crossroads GPS. Democrats also have super PACs and nonprofit groups aiding them, but they have raised and spent less than Republican-leaning groups.
