Monique Howard: High School Girl Playing Right Tackle On Football Team (VIDEO)

High School Girl Playing Right Tackle On Football Team

Monique Howard is not your average high school girl.

The 6'1" 190-pound senior plays right tackle on Pershing High School's football team, and by all indications, she holds her own.

"I laid this one boy out and he was so upset, and I just stood there," Howard told The Daily Mail. "'Their whole team gathered around me and said, "Get off him. Get off him.'"

Howard has impressed many with her gridiron prowess. "She's not some kind of gimmick," Detroit Public Schools official Chuck Johnson told The Post Game. "The girl can actually play."

With Howard eventually cracking the starting lineup, the Pershing "Doughboys" went 7-2 during the regular season before falling to Orchard Lake St. Mary's Prep in the first round of the playoffs.

While there have been other instances of girls playing football, most of those young women have been kickers, which is traditionally a position light on contact. Such was the case with Brianna Amat of Michigan, who served as her high school's kicker as well as homecoming queen.
