Middle School Student Arrested For Piercing Classmate's Navel At School

A 12-year-old student at Moses Middle School in Georgia was arrested for reportedly piercing a female classmate's belly button on campus, MyFoxAtlanta reports.

Police told the station that the pre-teen purchased the necessary tools on the Internet and learned the procedure from YouTube videos.

Local tattoo artist Boaty Boatright told MyFoxAtlanta that sanitation is a major concern for the girl following the piercing incident, which occurred in the school's bathroom.

"An infection is the least of your worries on that, you know," Boatright told the station. "You could get tetanus, but the big thing is hepatitis."

Cpl. Ashley Henson told CBS Atlanta that once the unnamed student was confronted, authorities confiscated needles, surgical clamps, barbs and alcohol pads from her.

The student was arrested because it is illegal in Georgia for anyone under the age of 18 to get a tattoo or piercing without parental permission, the station reports.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the student was released to her mother after being charged with reckless conduct and piercing the body of a person under 18.
