National Geographic Adventurers Of The Year: Nepali Pair Win With 'The Ultimate Descent'

And The Adventurers Of The Year Are...

Simply climbing and descending from the highest mountain in the world safely wasn't enough for two Nepalis. They had to throw in some paragliding and kayaking, too.

Over 70,000 votes selected Everest guide Lakpa Tsheri Sherpa and kayaker Sano Babu Sunuwar yesterday as the 2012 National Geographic's People Choice Adventurers of the Year. Chosen from a group of 12 adventurers, Sherpa and Sunuwar were chosen for their three-month adventure, dubbed 'The Ultimate Descent,' during which they climbed Mount Everest, descended via free-flight paraglide and kayaked almost 530 miles from Nepal to India.

2012 marks the seventh year that Adventurers of the Year have been chosen. See photos of this year's winners below, and check out photos and videos of previous winners here.
