Neil Gaiman, Amanda F**king Palmer & Judy Blume Take to Red Carpet for Free Speech

The National Coalition Against Censorship celebrated its 40th Anniversary of free speech advocacy at a gala event on November 3 in New York City.

The National Coalition Against Censorship celebrated its 40th Anniversary of free speech advocacy at a gala event on November 3 in New York City. Neil Gaiman author of graphic novels, comic books and other works of fiction was among the evening's honorees as one of its 2014 Free Speech Defenders. He joined Judy Blume and his wife singer song writer Amanda Fucking (that's right) Palmer on the Red Carpet to be interviewed bu KidLit.TV.

Also among the honorees was Robie Harris whose often censored book, It's Perfectly Normal is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The Trumbull High School Thespian Society who was being honored for defending its right to stage a production of Rent entertained the attendees with a medley from the show. Amanda Palmer also entertained with a song in tribute to Judy Blume. Palmer has a book, The Art of Asking coming out on November 11. Humorist John Hodgman was the emcee for the evening.
