New York City Teaching Gay Marriage In Summer School, Seeking Formal Curriculum Inclusion

Gay Marriage: A Lesson In New York City's Summer Schools

California may have passed the legislation, but New York has already hit the ground running. Summer school teachers in New York City are already teaching about same-sex marriage in civics classes, according to the New York Post.

Not only that, but the Post reports that city education officials are looking to follow in California's footsteps and formally include it into city schools' curriculum. A timeline was not reported.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill that legalized same sex marriage just less than a month ago. New York became the sixth state to permit gay marriage.

California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill Thursday that makes the state the first in the country to mandate lessons in public schools about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender life and history.
