Newt Gingrich Says Valentine's Day Plans Will Make Callista 'Quite Happy'

Gingrich's Valentine's Day Plans

Campaigning for the GOP presidential nomination is not an excuse to neglect Valentine's Day, Newt Gingrich said Monday, hinting to reporters that he had special plans with his wife, Callista.

"All I can promise you is that I believe she will be quite happy tomorrow night," Gingrich said at Hispanic fundraiser in Pasadena, Calif. "And we're going to have a nice, little private -- I think the first time in a while, we have a private dinner, and just hopefully exchange gifts and, you know, reconnect a little bit, but she's uh..." Gingrich reportedly trailed off as the crowd hooted and hollered. "You know?" he continued, asking a man behind him on stage with a smile.

Gingrich then put a stop to the line of questioning, before he could get himself in trouble.

"But I'm not going to get into -- no more details!" he said.

Callista, Gingrich's third wife, has taken a more public role in his campaign over the past couple days. She made an uncharacteristic appearance at Gingrich's high-profile Conservative Political Action Conference speech last week, introducing her husband and getting in a dig at Mitt Romney's singing skills.

"I am personally grateful for his wisdom in not trying to sing as a candidate," Callista said. "He knows his limitations."

Fox News reports that Gingrich confirmed on Monday that Callista's recently increased involvement was part of a broader campaign effort to boost her profile.

But Gingrich isn't just making Valentine's Day plans with his wife. On Tuesday, his campaign also rolled out a new website titled "Liberals Love Romney," highlighting supposed affection from the left toward the former Massachusetts governor.
