NORAD Santa Tracker 2009: Google Earth, Military Track Santa's Path (VIDEO)

NORAD Santa

Are you wondering: Where is Santa right now? Well the NORAD Santa Tracker can tell you.

For over 50 years, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has been tracking Santa's Christmas journey using its official Santa Tracker, which plots St. Nick's path around the world.

The tracker has gotten an update recently, as NORAD has partnered with Google to let you track Santa on Google Earth (and in 3D no less!).

Watch Santa and his reindeer as they zoom past 3D landmarks all like the Champs Elysees, Taj Mahal, and Empire State Building en route to delivering presents and Christmas cheer (see video below).

The NORAD Santa Tracker can also "send Santa to your phone" so you can track him on-the-go, and will also be posting updates on his progress on Twitter.

How does it work? NORAD explains they use "four high-tech systems to track Santa - radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jets."

At 8:14 ET on Christmas Eve, NORAD showed Santa to be in the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, saying his next stop would be Rabaul, Papua New Guinea.
