Nyan Nyan Nouveau, Japanese Wine For Cats, May Be Dangerous

That Japanese Wine For Cats May Be Dangerous

Japanese pet supply company B&H Lifes is selling "wine exclusively for cats," according to Kotaku's translation of Japanese news site Sankei Biz.

"Nyan Nyan Nouveau" ("nyan" is Japanese for "meow") doesn't actually contain any alcohol -- it's a concoction made primarily of of grape juice, Vitamin C and catnip. But just because it's non-alcoholic doesn't mean the product is safe. Grapes and raisins are known to cause kidney failure in dogs, and some evidence suggests they may have the same effect on cats. So while we love the idea of drinking with our feline companions, it's safest to steer clear of any products made out of grapes.

This article has been updated to reflect that grape products may be dangerous for cats.
