Obama: I Will 'Get A Little Depressed' When Daughters Head To Sleep-Away Camp

President Barack Obama has admitted that he will "get a little depressed" when his daughters leave for their first summer away from the White House and their parents.

Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, will be spending a month at sleep-away camp, Obama said in an interview with CBS News' Charlie Rose that aired Sunday.

"The girls are now of an age where they start having their own stuff," the 50-year-old father-in-chief said. "They’ve got a sleep away camp for a month, both of them are leaving, we’re experiencing the first stage of empty nest syndrome."

The first lady added that summer provides some relief from the presidential family's hectic schedule.

"We’re still parents where you have to juggle your time around when they’re free and summer time is that time," Michelle Obama said.

Her husband may have reason to feel uneasy about letting their daughters out of his sight: Malia was on spring break with friends in March when a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck. Malia was "safe and never in danger," a spokeswoman for the first lady later said in a written statement.
