Obama Thinks NBA 'Has Done The Right Thing' By Banning Donald Sterling, Says WH Spokesman

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama backs the move by the National Basketball Association to suspend LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life, after he was caught on tape making racist comments.

"The president believes the NBA has done the right thing," White House press secretary Jay Carney said during his Wednesday briefing.

An avid basketball fan, Obama weighed in on Sterling's comments over the weekend, calling them "incredibly offensive racist statements."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver on Tuesday announced a lifetime suspension and a $2.5 million fine for Sterling after he was heard in a recorded conversation telling a woman not to bring black friends to Clippers games or to post photos of herself with black people, including NBA legend Magic Johnson.
