Obama Honors 'Angel In Queens' With Presidential Citizens Medal For Feeding Unemployed

On Wednesday, former CNN Hero Jorge Muñoz was honored by President Obama with the Presidential Citizens Medal at a ceremony at the White House. The medal is the second highest honor a civilian can receive and is given to commend extraordinary acts of service to others.

Known as the Angel in Queens, Muñoz has been recognized for his commitment to feeding the needy in his community. Over the last several years, Muñoz has distributed over 70,000 home-cooked meals to struggling and unemployed New Yorkers.

In addition to Muñoz, 13 other Americans were also given the medal in recognition of accomplishments ranging from advancing women's rights to improving educational opportunities for inner city youth.

"What unites these citizens -- what makes them special -- is the determination they share to find a wrong and right it; to see a need and meet it; to recognize when others are suffering and take it upon themselves to make a difference," Obama said.
