Though there are yet to be any official plans for a Barack Obama presidential library, the battle is already well under way among sites hoping to play host to a major piece of the 44th American President's legacy.
The Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday that residents of Chicago's South Side Bronzeville neighborhood say they have a 37-acre site at their disposal that could be ideal for an Obama presidential library.
Already, other sites both in Chicago, Obama's hometown, and Hawaii, Obama's birth state, have also expressed interest in being home to the library. Other possible Chicago sites include the University of Chicago and developers of the old U.S. Steel South Works facility, according to the Associated Press.
The process of selecting a site for the Obama presidential library is expected to be a tense one. The University of Chicago's possible bid has already met the resistance of one of the school's most outspoken professors, Charles Lipson, who told the Sun-Times this summer that such a museum would be "advancing a political agenda."
The library could require some $500 million worth of fundraising to bring into fruition, Politico previously reported.
