President Barack Obama crushed a lot of people’s hopes and dreams this week, revealing that his wife Michelle “will never run for office.”

“She is as talented a person as I know,” he told Rolling Stone in an interview published Tuesday. “You can see the incredible resonance she has with the American people. But I joke that she’s too sensible to want to be in politics.”

Though the first lady previously said several times that she wouldn’t run, many progressives have held onto the hope that she would consider a future presidential bid.

Charity work, childhood obesity activism and charisma have earned her high approval ratings throughout her husband’s presidency.

Her powerful 2016 Democratic National Convention speech fired up many of her supporters, leading some to believe they would see her name on the 2020 Democratic ticket.

Despite her many supporters, Michelle Obama’s days in the White House are indeed winding down.

The first lady received her family’s final Christmas tree in the White House earlier this month. She gave an emotional speech to servicemembers and guests at a White House holiday celebration on Tuesday:

“On behalf of the entire Obama family ― me, Barack, Malia, Sasha, grandma, Bo and Sonny ― we are so proud of this team here, so proud of the time we have spent with you, so grateful for everything you’ve done for us.”
