When marketing coordinator Ayla Yilmaz approached accounting clerk Eugene Snood in the breakout area at the office of Diffenbach Inc. this morning and said, "Kara brought doughnuts in today in case anyone has the munchies," Mr. Snood did not perceive the mischievous tone with which the comment was made. He simply nodded politely, selected a French Cruller and made for his desk.

"I made the joke as obvious as I could, but it still went over his head," Ms. Yilmaz told reporters this morning.

The term 4/20 was allegedly coined by a group of teenagers in San Rafael, California in 1971. The group of teenagers designated the Louis Pasteur statue on the grounds of San Rafael High School as their meeting place, and 4:20 p.m. as their meeting time. Eventually, 4/20 became shorthand for pot-smoking in general. Today, April 20 is recognized as a counterculture holiday during which observers consume cannabis.

When asked what 4/20 meant to him, Mr. Snood said, "It's the numerical representation of today's date, the 20th of April in the year of our Lord 2011."

Today's unfortunate displays of uncoolness have cemented Mr. Snood's unofficial title as the office dork, but his obliviousness is not limited to 4/20, coworkers said. He also misses sexual innuendos and all manner of double entendre.

"The other day I heard him say 'It just doesn't fit' in reference to a budget item," said coworker Jake Allen. "When I replied with 'That's what she said,' he had the nerve to say, 'Who?'"
