Oprah's Fashion Confession Is Just So '80s

Shoulder pads were such a fashion necessity in the '80s, Oprah says she wore them with everything -- she even had them in her pajamas. "I have a shoulder pad drawer," she admits in this 1988 throwback clip from "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

During the episode, cosmetics mogul Adrien Arpel and her daughter, Lauren, taught women of all shapes and sizes how to dress like models. And in the 1980s, that meant shoulder pads -- and lots of them.

"The bigger the shoulder pad, the better the look," Lauren says.

"I add shoulder pads on everything small," Adrien adds. "My small dog walks around with shoulder pads because I think everyone should wear shoulder pads if you're small."

She goes on to explain that women of every size can benefit from the extra oomph. "If you are full figured, many woman are afraid of shoulder pads," she says. "Exactly the opposite! They make your figure look more important and they balance the body."

Oprah, agreeing, adds her own personal styling tip. "You can take a simple T-shirt, add pads, belt it -- you'll look terrific," she says.
